Always rude and crowded. The food is great if you can stand the rude mangers. The servers are generally easy to get along with. Mist people go for the great breakfast. Just can't stand the rude managers that seat you and at the cash registers. Be ready for bears everywhere and the non-standard tableware:)

Great breakfast! The four of us each had one of the best breakfast dishes ever. The bears are cute all around the restaurant. Planning to go back soon.

We went there several times on our way to or from Mueller Park, the first time we had great food and great service, but the last few times both the food and the service have gone down, things no longer taste like they are homemade but rather frozen stuff put together in the back by a cook who does not care. I do not know if they have changed the cook but the service has also gone down to the point where you have a hard time getting refills on your drinks and your food is cold when you get it because the waitress was busy chatting with friends... don't think we will go back :(

Good food good service... very busy on the weekend... I have been a couple of times and both times the service good and food was good... If I am in Woodland Park, I wouldn't mind getting a good breakfast here...

First to the reviews that didn't like it I think I know why, this place is known for its breakfasts so ordering lunch or dinner there is like ordering a hamburger at a sushi place it just doesn't make any since. The place is always full for a reason. I recommend you order breakfast and only breakfast next time you go there even if its dinner time. Next I have been eating breakfast here since I was 10 years old. It's not perfect or fancy but it is always good, hot, and reasonably priced. I have never liked pancakes but my mom made me try them there once and I love theirs.

We came for lunch on our way through town. It was busy, but the atmosphere was pleasant. It grew less pleasant as we waited an hour for our food, which arrived cold and burnt. I've lived in Colorado all my life, and any decent restaurant in CO should be able to make chili. I ordered a green chili burger, and the chili was so dry it didn't move. Both of our burgers were so overcooked and tough that neither of us could eat them, and my husband's sandwich was dry and cold. Our drinks ran dry half an hour into the wait and we never got refills--apparently our waitress left and didn't tell anyone? We never saw her again. They were kind enough to remove the vile burgers from the bill, but we will never be back!

Even though it was the Art Festival weekend with lots of folks waiting for brunch, it didn't seem long (20 min) until we were seated. Wait staff is right there with the coffee. French toast was covered in strawberries and bacon cooked to perfection. It's my first trip to Colorado, but this is on my list of places to go again. They're now open for dinner, too.

Best breakfast in the Colorado Springs area by far. The Bear has the yummiest breakfast burrito and blueberry buckwheat pancakes (called Bucky Blues) I've ever had. The bacon is thick cut and cooked perfectly every time. Portions are huge, so take a big appetite or get a to-go box (the burrito usually lasts me 4 meals). The staff is always so friendly and they go out of their way to please you. My little one loves to spin the wheel (all bills over $20 spin for a prize). The Hungry Bear is a great greasy spoon. If they put in a patio, I'd never leave. Pros: Delicious food, huge portions, friendly staff, quaint mountain atsmophere. Cons: Tacky bear decor....hahaha.

The BEST breakfast burritos in the world are served here and their crepes are HUGE (not kidding!). We really enjoy this place. It is always very crowded, but they are pretty good about getting meals out to people on time. The people who work their are like family. For those who love true American food, this is THE place to go.

This is a cute little local restaurant. I'm hoping we caught them on a bad day. My companion ordered a BLT which arrived minus the tomatoes. We were then told they were out. Our waitress seemed distracted. Upon leaving I tried to pay only to be told they did not accept American express. (There was no signage to indicate this) I'd be willing to give them a second try but overall my first experience was not pleasant.

We were in Woodland Park, CO (from California) for a couple of days of Fly Fishing and wanted to eat at a "local" restaurant for breakfast. We believe we stumbled, hands down on the best eatery we have ever had breakfast at. The service was excellent, prices reasonable and the food! Let the pictures speak for themselves!!!! Veggie Omelet, Crepes and a Breakfast Sandwich with great coffee! Wish we had a Hungry Bear (and their chef/cook) in Riverside, CA.

Baller. Small town, small breakfast place was super busy on the Saturday morning we visited - but was well worth it. Biscuits and gravy just like grandma used to make. The nice thick bacon too, not that cheap skinny stuff. Took a little longer than expected, but again - great food and pretty dang cheap too

Simply put, Hungry Bear is a solid choice for breakfast. It has a large, extensive menu, delivers great service and massive portions. You'll find everything from big breakfast burritos, to traditional eggs and bacon, intriguing omelets and much more. Whereas the menu at Grandmas across the street is simple and slim, Hungry Bear is diverse, complex and leaves no one without something they want to try. Across the street at Grandmas you'll Dennys/IHOP quality. Hungry Bear raises the bar, seemingly delivering homemade dishes, including stuff like fresh salsa and green chili to pour on a breakfast burrito. They also have daily specials. When strolling through Woodland Park, you'll be challenged to find a better breakfast. The food here is tasty, the service is good and everything in priced to sell. This is a great opportunity to eat local and be served by locals at a place that brings taste to breakfast.

Another great local eatery that feels like home. Staff is super friendly and the food is consistently tasty. Given that the town is small and options are limited don't be surprised if you wait a bit on busy weekends. Our table enjoyed pancakes, crepes and the Cindy Lou minus the gravy. Food arrived hot and tasted delicious. The Cindy Lou is a scramble of eggs, ham and bacon over hash browns with gravy over top and toast of your choice. Good value for the price. Staff is on top of refills on coffee and checking in. On your way out if you've spent over $20 you can spin the wheel to earn money off your next visit, a candy and other prizes, fun for the family.

This place is very popular and very quirky. But I LOVED my pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. They make their own pancake batter and the pancakes are delicious! We weren't a fan of the pie, though- the crust was pretty gummy. The omelettes got good reviews too!

We live in Divide and we're happy to be regulars here. Love this place! This place truly deserves five stars because not only is their food good, but their service is also good and more importantly, always friendly! SO good: blueberry pancakes Good: buttermilk pancakes, burger, chili, pot roast sandwich, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast, coffee, biscuit gravy, coke, chicken club sandwich, side salad, omelets, fries, banana crepe, cinnamon roll, buttery grilled cheese like yo mama made Meh: patty melt, OJ, grilled chicken salad, BLTA, meatloaf mashed potatoes carrots No: sausage Pass: don't get chili fries or chili burger cuz they're chili's good but it's not the right kind to top those things. And the cup of chili is extremely small.

We stopped at hungry bear on our way to the airport for breakfast and it was great! Very accommodating staff. They want to make you happy. Fun and friendly atmosphere. They have a little wheel the kiddos can spin to win little prizes. Fun. FIVE STARS easy. Don't go to IHOP or Waffle House. Support local!

Hungry Bear is a really cute, friendly spot for breakfast food. Our waitress, Sami, was super friendly, and the pancakes here are the lightest and fluffiest I've ever had. Can't wait to go back and get more!

The Hungry Bear is an awesome small town restaurant! Breakfast is always great, and since we LIVE here, we go often. Service can get crazy during tourist season. Last time we were there ( a couple weeks ago) our ticket had gotten lost. Now, we didn't complain at all. Why? We are all human & mistakes happen. The time we waited gave us the opportunity to watch 2 women along with 3 small kids order. The waitress brought out the kids food first to give the ladies time to get them settled, then brought out theirs. Brilliant!! We watched a LOT of large parties with small children. I didn't hear anyone complaining. Our food was awesome! Kudos to all the wait staff & cooks!! This is not a restaurant for those with OCD, nor is it a restaurant for the snooty. Down home folks!!

On a recent visit to Cripple Creek, we drove through Woodland Park. Neither of us had been through before, and I made a mental note to check out what I could on our way back to Denver. Once I got cell service back on my phone on the drive back, I began searching for a brunch spot. The Hungry Bear seemed to fit the bill, and based on the full parking lot (even on a Monday morning), it would seem as though the right choice had been made. Stepping into HBR is like stepping into a restaurant decorated by a grandma. Or a grandma and a five-year old niece. Bears. Everywhere. Stuffed, pictures, plaques, figurines... bears, bears, bears. Coupled with the mix-and-match plates, cups, etc., it was quite the little place. I suspect this is a mostly "regulars" kind of place, but our server was friendly and welcoming nonetheless. Despite my utmost desires for a well rounded breakfast of eggs AND pancakes, I resisted the urge in the name of Lent. In my experience it's rare to find savory breakfasts paired with a side of pancakes (e.g. eggs, meat [if that's your thing], hashbrowns, AND pancakes) outside of I.H.O.P. and the like. Alas, the Hungry Bear offers just that. But I had to pass, and instead go with the all-veggie breakfast burrito. The green chili is not vegetarian, but the salsa that it came covered in instead suit me just fine. It was a huge portion of hashbrowns (the shreddy kind), eggs, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Wrapped up in a flour tortilla and topped with cheddar and salsa (or your choice of other topping), it's no joke. I also ordered coffee which was so-so. The Dude never observes Lent (grumble, grumble... just kidding!), and almost always observes when granola pancakes are offered. And boy are they here. So of course he got them -- again a very generous serving. He said they were definitely in the top three of granola pancakes he's had. I'd like to report personal feedback on those, but no sweets for me so I had to live vicariously through him and take his word for it. In all we came in at about $16 for the two of us (including one coffee), and considering I made more than one meal out of my giant burrito, that's a deal. If we're ever driving back through I'd definitely stop again. And maybe next time I can enjoy that well rounded breakfast... :)

Fantastic roadside breakfast place. Great selection, some unusual items such as crepes, all delicious and reasonable. Very homey atmosphere

The wait was about average. Our party of 4 waited about 20 minutes before being seated, granted it was brunch time, and it was father's day. The food took a little longer than it should have, about 20 minutes from the time we ordered. But the quality was well worth the wait. The prices were very affordable. I got a cheese omelette and 2 large pancakes for $6. All of the waitresses were very polite and attentive, quickly caring for any needs. The memorabilia on the walls was also very enjoyable and fun to look at. Overall a great experience. Would definitely come back.

Hungry bear is one of the most recognized restaurants in Woodland Park, as they have a great location and the breakfast fare is good and inexpensive. The cooking is diner level, nothing unexpected, just what you ordered for a very reasonable price. Friendly service, though be warned if they are busy, don't expect "fast food" quickness. The atmosphere is a complete wreck. There is nothing used consistently to tie it all together. Every chair is different, every table, the junk strewn around that they call decor is an amazing mess. Some people find this totally charming, though, so your experience may vary. Bottom line, if you want a good hot breakfast and cup of coffee, at a very nice price, stop by, relax, and for goodness' sake bring a friend or newspaper or something to distract from the cheesy surroundings.

All around bad experience! First thing was that after our 3 drinks came we asked for straws and we got 1! I odered the guacamole melt and it was AWFUL! Hardly any bacon and the guacamole was horrible. Not only did it taste bad but it was not green, it was Brown, like it was made 3 days ago. Yuck! I didn't bother to complain because all the ladies working were to busy arguing about who was working what station and who was staying late. The other meals that were ordered were ok, but not worth the money. At last when we got the check and went to the cashier to pay, the girl told me the amount and what she said was almost $1 more than the check. When I asked about the difference she just said, oh it's off. Ummmmm, ok. By this time I was so ready to just leave. I should have just went to the gas station up the street, I would have got something better!

Great little resturant. One major flaw is just how they take your name and seat you. Seems like a minute detail but when we got passed up by 3 separate groups of people that were also a group of 2. This was due to them beliving that they already sat us and crossed out our names.. even though our names were not crossed out. Simple mistake that delayed us being seated by over 30 minutes. And when a family came in with 5 people and they just took them in because they knew them, and the man even said, do I really have to wait?? Come on now. Great resturant and food but the quality of service was unfortunate.

Great spot. The food was very good and the service was fantastic. The breakfast burrito with half and half green chili and sausage gravy was awesome. Pancakes are the bomb! Prices are reasonable and speed was good. Only things to improve on is the facility itself and the chairs and tables are beat up. Bathrooms are small and overused.

Interesting place to say the least but definitely not an experience I would want to remember. We arrived around 8am and the place was packed. We thought a full parking lot would be a good sign. First, you walk in and sign in for a table. With only two of us dining, we thought we would just be placed quickly since there were mostly large groups. A few more groups arrive after us and then a man with 6 people signed in and sat at the bar area near the cashier. The way the cashier spoke with this guy, I think he came in frequently. 5 minutes after the guy walked in he said "we don't want to wait too long, when are you seating us?" AND THEN THEY SEATED HIM!!! They skipped the other 5 groups ahead and seated that guy and his group....UGH! Then, another group said "we have been here before, why haven't we been seated?" so they seat that group too. 45 minutes went by and everyone else was selectively seated and then they completely forgot about us until we asked the waitress why they skipped us. The waitress flipped through previous sign in pages and found our name half way through and said "oh....hold on". No apology, just sat us down at a random table where we were yet again forgotten. I won't even go into details about the rest but just know... if it's your first time and their regulars come in, don't count on having great service.

Best breakfast around! I have been coming to this restaurant for over five years and there just is no comparison with any other restaurant here in town. The staff is really friendly, the music is perfect as a great mix of classic rock and top hits tunes. The food is always perfect and I could come here everyday.

My family and I go to hungry bear all the time and love it every time. It has a a great family friendly atmosphere for all. The reason we see it as being so great may be because we live in a town where basically everyone knows everyone but they serve the same recipe to everyone and some hospitality to everyone so definitely stop by and become part of our community, I guarantee you will not be disappointed by this great little place.

Cozy atmosphere, very friendly staff. Food was poor, most overcooked burgers we've ever had. Kids macaroni and cheese was straight out of a Kraft box.

A group of us stopped here for an early lunch / late breakfast while touring the area. My wife and I love to patronize local eateries and this place was just great. We were seated almost immediately despite the large size (9) of our party. Our server was very friendly and accommodating . . . even with 3 separate checks. I ordered wild blueberry pancakes and my wife had the wild blueberry crepes . . . both were really delightful . . . the pancakes had a muffin like texture and taste that was scrumptious. The wild blueberries are not as sweet as the ones you buy in a store. Their bacon was lean and smoky. I also sampled their French fries which were equally delectable and tasty . . . not too greasy, crisp and soft on the inside like a good fry should be. I thought this place was reasonably priced, with friendly service and a warm "bear" themed atmosphere. I really liked it and highly recommend it.

Great place for breakfast. My family loves this place, reasonable prices and great food. We only come for breakfast, we tried the lunch once and didn't care for it.

First off, I like this place it's quirky and a small town family run joint that's not trying to impress anyone. They serve hot coffee, excellent breakfast food and the waiters are friendly. The prices are relatively inexpensive and this is by no means a judgment on the quality of the food at all. The wait is usually about 15-20 minutes during the weekend rush but, if you're not in a hurry get a cup of coffee and just relax. I don't get the teddy bears but, hey different strokes for different folks.

Had breakfast with the family recently and the food was really good but the service was some of the best I ever had. The lady (don't remember her name) treated my kids like they were her grandchildren, very sweet and kind. If your looking for a solid breakfast w. great service in Woodland the hungry bear doesn't disappoint.

This is a great place to stop for breakfast. The food was wonderful (I had the Cindy Lou and my husband had the Spanish scramble but not with chicken, with pork. Our server who's name was Sami suggested the pork and my husband was pleased. We both really enjoyed our breakfast. We highly recommend this place.

Off the beaten path and in a very scenic area of the mountains, the Hungry Bear is well worth the trip. And today, I WAS the hungry bear! After spending a few hours with the wolves at the nearby Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, me and my group were famished. Pulled out the phone and fired up the Yelp app. I read on Yelp that they specialize in pancakes so I went for it. All different types are available. I got some walnut pancakes with powdered sugar (see photo). I ate them all, so good were these things. Very friendly, family type atmosphere. They treat you like you've been coming there for years, even though we were strangers. You also get to spin the wheel for some free stuff on your way out. I won a free dessert. Guess I'll have to come back!

Located at an elevation of 8,465 feet, Hungry Bear Restaurant made me high. I had the best time there, as did Christopher and our friend Scott. We stopped in for a bit of lunch after a four hour drive through the mountains. What a pleasant surprise awaited us! Hungry Bear is a bear lovers mecca. The interior is decorated with over 1,000 bears (I asked) ranging from teddy bears to art work to sculptures. It was kitch in the finest sense of the word. I was happier than a bear in a berry patch. I'm a big city girl, but these are the kinds of adventures I dream of. Lots of fun along the way. The food was quite good. We had burgers and some terrific onion rings. My only disappointment was the pie slices we brought home. They were homemade, but I think someone forgot to put any sugar in the crust at all, so it tasted kind of flat. The service was very friendly. We got to take a spin on the wheel to win a prize. I won a cup of coffee. If at all possible, we will be back one of these days. Till then we will try and "bear" up!

I'd give Hungry Bear four stars for the food, which was delicious but maybe just a bit shy of a 5-star rating. The diced chicken and green chile omelette was nice, as were the buttermilk pancakes, but still on par with 4-star IHOP pancakes. The extra star gets added for the amazing service. Jamie waited on us, and she was quite possibly one of the best waitresses we've ever had. They also seated our party of 8 in the closed section (we came in around 2pm) so we could sit comfortably at the lovely pine wood table in the corner of the middle room. The decoration was also great. Overall a great find, and I highly recommend it!

This diner is cute and country. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful; Knowledgeable about the menu, enthusiastic, personable and attentive. My husband got the big burrito with sausage gravy on half and homemade chili on the other and he loved every bite! I got a build your own omelet with hash browns and a pancake. This restaurant is known for their pancakes and it did not disappoint! Everything was delicious.

We stopped in on Sunday around 1:30 PM and the place was hopping! We were surprised to be seated so quickly and had drinks right away. The hubby wanted a few more minutes to order and the waitress said she would be right back - it took about 20 minutes for her to do so... we passed the time playing "pass the pig" (an awesome game) so it wasn't unBEARable! The hundreds of teddy bears may have been but as others say it is a local diner in a small country town and it works for them. We ordered the following: - Cranberry Nut French Toast - 3 slices of Texas Toast dipped in cranberry batter and sprinkled with powdered sugar and crushed walnuts. -Bear French Toast - dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar - simple and delish. - Pancakes - buttermilk - 3 huge ones. You can also order: buckwheat, cream of wheat or Kansas corn topped with fruit, nuts and honey. The specialty is the tropical syrup. -Grilled Pollo Loco - chicken breast topped with bacon and pepper jack on a Kaiser bun - the hubby had pickles added and he said they packed some heat. - Cheese Quesadilla - served on a bed of lettuce with diced tomatoes, black olives and a small side of salsa and sour cream. I added chicken which was a bit too peppered for my taste but nice white meat chunks and fresh. Note: the lettuce, tomato and olives were not in the quesadilla as one may expect... The raspberry iced tea was sweet - the way I like it. If you spend over $20 you get a free spin on the wheel - always fun and the kids enjoyed it - they won a free coffee and a free soup - sucks for them as they are visiting from Connecticut but great for us for the next time we go back.

My Husband and I went there for breakfast one morning on our vacation- It was amazing!!! Great food- fun atmosphere with stuffed bears all around the restaurant and a fun menu with play on words (the bear necessities) I craved it all week- on our last day of our vacation we tried to go back for one last breakfast which was on a Sunday and there was a line out the door. I would recommend going during the week. If you don't- it is well worth the wait! :)

I have eaten breakfast in this restaurant many times over the past 7 years. This past Sunday my wife's and my meals were not good. Our bill exceeded $20 for lackluster fare. While the service was good and the coffee refills were plentiful, the actual food was lukewarm when delivered, and bland. The portions are on the large size. The link sausage tasted old and dried out, as though the links had basked in a dehydrator. It is tough to mess eggs up. The pancakes and hash browns were average. Over the years we have experienced good breakfasts at The Hungry Bear....hopefully this recent experience is an isolated incident. We will give it one more chance.

To other reviewers who have issues with the Hungry Bear, don't go there expecting suit and tie type service. This is a small hometown atmosphere restaurant, not Ruth Chris. The food is amazing and the portions are huge. The prices are spot on and the service is unmatched. We live in Colorado Springs and we love to set aside weekends to make the trip just to eat there. If your passing through Woodland Park and you don't mind a "down home feel" then give the Hungry Bear a try, you won't be disappointed.

The food was delicious! All of their food is from scratch with no preservitives and boy can you taste it! I haven't had buttermilk pancakes like the ones they serve here since I was a small child. The service can be a little slow when they are super packed but it's worth the wait and everyone there is friendly.

Local place with friendly service. So many bears, it's adorable. Plays nice music. Lots of interesting food to choose from. I had the day's lunch special; open-faced turkey sandwich with turkey gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce. It's like Thanksgiving in July. Also stole some of our neighbor's french fries, they were nice and crispy even 15 minutes after he got them. The food arrived hot and delicious, and the portions were large for just over $7. I'd come back here if it wasn't so out of the way. PS they let you spin the prize wheel when you pay for your order. Super fun.

No way is this better than Omelette Parlor or King Chef in Colorado Springs. I can't say I'll ever feel the need to go back. The eggs were completely overcooked, the hash seemed like it was from a can. The green chile was clunky and seemed boiled to death. I guess that's from a can too. The pancakes were good. The coffee was good. The service was kind, but slow. The atmosphere was a classic diner. But I could do without seeing stuffed animals all over the place - they just collect dust and dust falls into food. overall, meh.

We had a late Breakfast so the crowd had thinned out. Service was friendly. To be honest we were disappointed in our meal. Wife had the 2-2-2, eggs, bacon and pancakes. The pancakes were cold and stiff, wouldn't even melt butter and eggs on the runny side. I had a scramble over hash browns topped with sausage gravy with a pancake side. Again cold pancake, cold hashbrowns and bland gravy. We eat here maybe six times a year and it's usually better. The Pantry in Green Mountain Falls is a better option for Breakfast (at least today). Hunger Bear does have a loyal following and we'll try again in another couple months.

The food at this place is good but not the best ever. The service is OK too. The problem is everything else you experience when you come. The place is always busy, you would think the hundreds of Teddy Bears all over the walls staring at you would scare people away. I thought it was called "Hungry Bear" not Hungry teddy bear! All the tables and chairs are miss matched which drives me crazy. The bathrooms only can hold one person at a time so if more then one person needs to go you are out of luck. Besides the teddy bears all around is a bunch of other distraction junk on the wall. I know they are going for a mothers kitchen look but is their mother a hoarder because that is the expression I get out of it. Oh and worst of all they do not have a good kids menu. We ended up getting a cheese sandwich for my three year old daughter. The only side they offer for a child was chips! I had to pay extra for a bowl of fruit (which came out looking more like a bowl of mush and my daughter wouldn't touch it). We asked for chocolate milk for her and it did not come with a lid. I felt like I was asking to much to ask for something as common as a lid for a kids drink. They took her drink back and came out with chocolate milk in a coffee cup with a coffee lid. She ended up spilling it anyway trying to drink out of it. I am big on restaurants that cater to kids. When they don't I don't eat there anymore.

We went here with our family, over 10 adults and 1 child. Our 3 year old. The decor is awful. Mismatched chairs and tables, teddy bears everywhere, very cheesy. We got our 3 year old Chocolate Milk and it came out filled to the rim and no lid. She's 3, she will spill. I asked the waitress for a lid and she said "It's OK, she won't spill it." I asked again and they brought me a styrofoam coffee cup with a coffee lid. Guess what, she still spilled it because the lid opens on the side. Ugh. They also charged us extra for fruit for her instead of fried chips. While waiting for our food, my daughter needed to go to the restroom. It was full, as it only holds 1 person. Here's the moral of the story kids: Take care of my kid and we'll all be happy. Forget about kids and we'll end up at Denny's. This is restaurant 101.

Sarah C.
Bottom line up front--mass quantities at decent prices. I don't think I'll be back, it's really not my taste. But the food was ok and the service was definitely efficient and friendly. The kids liked it and that was good enough for me at 0730 before a 6 mile hike.

Just ate breakfast there this morning with our group. Food was excellent. Cranberry french toast is amazing. Service was a bit slow, but everything was correct and they were packed for the Holiday. We've been there several times and the food is always good. We will definitely go again!

When your in the bear country feast at the Hungry Bear, for guaranteed bearapalooza. So cute and quaint, and locally loved. A great breakfast spot. I have been to the Hungry Bear three times and each a delicious and memorable experience. I will be back the next visit to my dads cabin in Florissant, Colorado! I can not wait!

My husband and I went to the Hungry Bear for Breakfast about 10:30 AM on Memorial Day. It was very busy, but we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our waitress was super friendly and great all around. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. I ordered the Country Fried Steak and substituted the pancakes for a biscuit and gravy. It also came with eggs which I ordered scrambled. The Country fried steak was very small and thin. It tasted pretty good though. However, the bottom of the biscuit was overly brown (almost burned) and tasted a little old. The scrambled eggs were way over cooked to a light brown on some spots. Very dry. This may be a fluke as I looked around at other's scrambled eggs and they looked fine. I was not impressed with the food. My husband said his tasted pretty good. He ordered the Cindy Lou Breakfast which has eggs, ham, potatoes. However, a couple of hours later, he was vomiting and had severe diarrhea. He hadn't ate anything but Breakfast. While I can't say with absolute certainty that his breakfast is what caused him to be sick, he didn't run a fever or exhibit any signs of flu. We won't be going back. I especially wouldn't recommend this restaurant for people with allergies since the decor consists of literally hundreds of stuffed Teddy Bears that cannot be dusted and are dust magnets.

We tried this place for breakfast about 3 months ago after our cabin stay in Florissant. Good food and service. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak with green chili (btw, not spicy hot), and I ordered the grain pancakes (buckwheat) with bananas and granola, which turned out being buttermilk instead. It was still good, just not what I wanted. They also have sugar-free syrup, if you were wondering. I would definitely give the place another shot, if in the area again.

For a cheap, delicious, ENORMOUS breakfast, you can't beat the Hungry Bear. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered one of each of the grain pancakes (cream of wheat, corn, and buckwheat), and they may have well been the best pancakes I've ever had. My husband had the Southwestern Scramble which he thoroughly enjoyed. The reason I dock it a star was because my husband ordered a bowl of mixed fruit and with the exception of the bananas, the fruit had most certainly been frozen. We will definitely return!

We've driven up from Colorado Springs a number of times. They do a busy business and are great for breakfast. They have lots and lots of choices, so it's fun just to try new things. The decor is also fun with stuffed teddy bears on shelves around the walls, so little kids enjoy the atmosphere. Even with the kid and family appeal, it never seems noisy. The service is good and accommodating. On one occasion we moved to another table to allow them to reorganize tables for a large group. With only two cups of coffee to move, we were not troubled at all. Yet, they were very gracious in their request, and in return, they provided discount coupons for our meal. Of course, the drive up the pass is lovely, so it's always pleasant to go there.

I spend a lot of time in the Colorado mountains and love many of the small-town diners. Typically they are run by nice, friendly people, have good food and good prices. Other than the friendly service and good prices, this just is not one of those places. The breakfast and coffee was hot but that is all the good comments I can think to make. The food was bland and not as good as what I can throw together at home. The coffee did not taste good. As much as I wanted to like this restaurant, I cannot see going back and do not recommend it.

Once again I ate an awesome meal with huge portions. I don't think my stomach can handle eating here more than once a month. :-)

Hungry Bear is awesome and Authentic. Its only big city people that do not care for the "decor" or the mixed coffee mugs, or plates. If your looking for fancy stuff then stay in the city do not come up to small towns and think your going to PF Chang's decor inside and out. Complain about your big city chain restaurants not small town mom n pop places. Hungry Bear's food is awesome and huge portions. If your on vacation up in the area go there for sure just leave your Gucci and Prada at home. Friendly happy people there serving you, also do not listen to the "city people" reviews. YELPs biggest down fall is having people like that posting on this site. So Sad.

The Hungry Bear is good stuff. They offer huge portions of tasty, freshly prepared food. We have been there twice now, and have been very pleased both times. The homey, quaint atmosphere is compounded by waitresses that don't mind being called waitresses, and call you "hon" or "sweetie" when they come by your table. I can't remember what I got the first time, but it was good enough to inspire a return visit. The second time we went, I got the honey-nut pancakes, and they knocked my socks off. Sweet, nutty and very hearty. My wife got a breakfast burrito, and it was the size of my head! (I have a big head) She enjoyed it thoroughly, although she didn't even get close to finishing it. All in all, the Hungry Bear is an awesome little restaurant where they feed you well and don't break the bank while doing it. If you are in Woodland Park around breakfast-time, stop in and fill yourself up!

Best breakfast I've had in a long time. And you get a lot of food for the money. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow. They also have a large wheel you spin after your meal to win soup, pie, coffee, etc on your next visit.

This place is great. Local place with a great atmosphere of home. All the staff are friendly and fast. I had the Mounty which consists of 2 grilled buttermilk biscuits with eggs, ham, sausage gravy and cheddar cheese all piled on top served with unbelievable hashbrowns on the side. Tons of food and was only $6.95! They kept my coffee cup full the entire time and the coffee was smooth and fresh. I highly recommend.

Maybe we were asking too much. Saturday night and we were in search of a good meal. In spite of the hundreds of semi-creepy teddy bears and the other kitschy decor, the food just wasn't to my liking. I know it's a small town, but iceberg with matchstick carrots? The green beans had bacon (and I do love bacon) but wish there had been more flavor, my 6 oz steak was so tough I bent my fork, and my daughter's lasagna barely had pasta so she didnt' eat much of it. She'd never seen a crescent roll before so was fascinated by it's butt shape. It was pretty tasty despite our many crack jokes. My sweet potato fries were good. They had lots of pies listed on their chalkboards, but we felt a little rushed out as we got there at 7:45 and they close at 8. Our server was nice and very attentive. I'd go back to try the raved about breakfasts, but will stick to Manitou Springs for a little more upscale meal. It's not you, it's me.

Great place to get breakfast. Blueberry crepes are excellent. Mostly locals and can get crowded. Friendly employees and good service. The best place by far to get breakfast in the area.

My husband and I have gone in few times service is good but the food is getting worse. Our food consisted of burnt toast and burnt hash browns and a slice of cheese on top of the omelet. Never will go there again.

The location is great. The food is fantastic! The atmosphere and seating is like going back in time to the seventies.

We were going to visit the dino museum and yelped a place for late breakfast. This was a great choice. I had an omelet, which was served hot and with nice crunchy hash browns. My daughter ordered the kid's chicken fingers, which were very tasty. Husband had the pancakes, which were very light and fluffy. Bathrooms were in need of some updating and attention. But overall a good experience. Wish we lived closer!

We wandered into this restaurant recently after a long motorcycle ride. We didn't expect to walk in to a teddy bear museum of sorts. Well, I guess it was more like a 9 year old girl's room - because the restaurant isn't very large and the walls were lined with stuffed toys. Our food wasn't very good, either. I had the patty melt, which left much to be desired. My bf had chili in a bread bowl, which looked gross - and from his complaints later that evening, it wasn't good at all. The staff were happy and friendly, but very slow and unprofessional.

We went to the Dinosaur Research Center in Woodland Park and asked the people there for a good local spot for lunch. They recommended the Hungry Bear. NEWS FLASH: It's a local diner in a small country town. Don't expect the latest trendy cuisine and decor!! Having ranted that, the Hungry Bear fit the bill perfectly. Good comfort food, friendly service, honest prices. Sure the music was bit loud and there were too many teddy bears, but who cares? A great lunch and breakfast spot for visitors. We'll be coming back.

Taking a quick trip to Woodland Park for shopping and to enjoy the views, we went to Hungry Bear for late breakfast. We had an exceptionally good breakfast. of pancakes, biscuit & sausage gravy, the special fo the day (pork chops & eggs), hashbrowns, cocoa, coffee, &tea....ummm! Excellent food...reasonable prices...friendly and fast service...oh, and the most tender pork chops I've ever had anywhere! This place is a gem!

I understand the charm of antique signs and stuffed bears but the whole episode made me feel a little queasy. Having read reviews of this place I was excited for french toast and some historic charm (we just moved here from CA) so we headed over to Hungry Bear. At first I kept telling myself not to be put off by the weird decor, hardly sociable staff and lack of cleanliness but when our food arrived I realized it was a no-win situation. The hot chocolate was epic (although I think I'm just a sucker for a mound of whipped cream and hershey syrup) but that's where it ended. The sausage was overcooked, the eggs were rubber and the raisin bread french toast was dry, over-coated in egg, and tasteless except for the raisin. They even added frozen (almost rotten) strawberries which made the whole dish soggy, half ice cold and unappealing. The only saving grace on the plate was the bacon..but it's pretty hard to screw up bacon. All in all if you're standards for breakfast are low you might enjoy HB, for us Californians it wasn't something we'll rush back to.

This is our favorite breakfast in Woodland Park. The blueberry pancakes are fantastic. I have them with the ham, the bacon is not so great. Also very good are their hearty egg burritos and their chicken fried steak, and all combos of the above, with chili or gravy. This is real home style cooking, and the staff will treat you like family.

Um... I wish I had been able to read Barbara S. review of The Hungry Bear before I went there on Sunday. She says: "Maybe we were asking too much. Saturday night and we were in search of a good meal. In spite of the hundreds of semi-creepy teddy bears and the other kitschy decor, the food just wasn't to my liking. I know it's a small town, but iceberg with matchstick carrots?" And oh boy were those bears creepy! 1. Check your silverware before you wrap it up in a napkin. Finding food on 2 of the 3 utensils is disturbing and disguisting. 2. After seeing my utensils I order the cheese quesadille. The food is sub-par at best. No, I didn't go for breakfast but honestly how hard is it to make a cheese quesadilla? 3. My parents had the vegetarian burritos. Neither are vegetarians and maybe that was the first mistake. My stepfather was so appalled by the food he complained for 2 hours. My mom said she wasn't disappointed because her expectations were about the same as they would be going to a Village Inn. We won a free drink with purchase of meal on the spinning wheel at the register when we were leaving; we won't be using it if anyone needs it.

Great local eatery with hugh cheap breakfasts. I ordered the veggie omelet and it came with 3 pancakes so just shared with the kiddos and it was enough for all 3 of us. For $6! Wow! The omelet was good, very fresh mushrooms and onions. Pancakes were great, very fluffy. Kiddos also wanted hot chocolate, and it came with a tower of whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The waitress even brought them a little cooler so the kids wouldn't burn their tongues. Everyone else had something different, some even ordered off the lunch menu since it was noon (I can eat breakfast at noon! I was on vacation!!). No complaints and several were pleasantly surprised.

Let's just say, you'll never get bored while you are sitting there waiting on your food, because you have a million bears to stare at on the walls. It's quite entertaining but sort of creepy at the same time. Kids (that like bears) would love it. It's very interesting to see the unique collection of all the "bears." Nonetheless, the food is average tasting but you receive large amounts, which is alright. I've had the blueberry pancakes, and they are decent. The staff was friendly to my group but not very attentive. If you feel like being "stuffed," eat here.

Old school...and that is a compliment. A great place to stop for breakfast if you are in the road or staying in the area. Pleasant break from the cookie cutter national chains. Simple food, well prepared, and quite reasonable in price. And the staff is throwback too...actually getting to know customers, caring about getting orders right, and straight from the "What'll ya have, doll?" school of service. Love it.

The absolute best pancakes anywhere in the country. They make them pretty much any way you want them, just ask and they are happy to oblige. Small diner in nature (literally and figuratively) but family and kid friendly all the way. It wouldn't be The Hungry Bear without a bear theme, and believe me they are everywhere down to their mascot Rufus being on the sign outside. If you visit Woodland Park, CO stop in for breakfast and you will leave like a bear getting ready for winter. Be sure to spin the prize wheel after eating and say hi to Rufus sitting in the chair before you walk out the door!

We went for a late lunch. The service was great. The food was even better. I had a BLT. There were 2 layers of each. Double bacon, double lettuce and double tomato. It was awesome. Everyone elses food was great. My kids even want to revisit. Enjoy!!

Always rude and crowded. The food is great if you can stand the rude mangers. The servers are generally easy to get along with. Mist people go for the great breakfast. Just can't stand the rude managers that seat you and at the cash registers. Be ready for bears everywhere and the non-standard tableware:)
(2)Francesca A.
Great breakfast! The four of us each had one of the best breakfast dishes ever. The bears are cute all around the restaurant. Planning to go back soon.
(5)Sally C.
We went there several times on our way to or from Mueller Park, the first time we had great food and great service, but the last few times both the food and the service have gone down, things no longer taste like they are homemade but rather frozen stuff put together in the back by a cook who does not care. I do not know if they have changed the cook but the service has also gone down to the point where you have a hard time getting refills on your drinks and your food is cold when you get it because the waitress was busy chatting with friends... don't think we will go back :(
(2)Rob K.
Good food good service... very busy on the weekend... I have been a couple of times and both times the service good and food was good... If I am in Woodland Park, I wouldn't mind getting a good breakfast here...
(4)Mary H.
(4)Kathryn O.
(1)Katie J.
Food was fine, large portions, but it is so small it was unpleasant.
(2)Ruth B.
(5)Elissa H.
(5)Shanna V.
The BEST breakfast burritos in the world are served here and their crepes are HUGE (not kidding!). We really enjoy this place. It is always very crowded, but they are pretty good about getting meals out to people on time. The people who work their are like family. For those who love true American food, this is THE place to go.
(5)Peg T.

Some of my friends love this place but I just can't get excited about it. My pancakes were sour and I was ill all day afterwards.

huge, inexpensive, and wonderfully tasty breakfasts...a staple of our vacations to colorado!

Super awesome restaurant great food would go to again if in the area live in Denver but have out of state family visiting so touring around, wraps are large size.

Love the Hungry Bear. Everyone is so nice and the food is great!! My husband can't wait to retire and spend his mornings here.
(5)Whitney B.
Baller. Small town, small breakfast place was super busy on the Saturday morning we visited - but was well worth it. Biscuits and gravy just like grandma used to make. The nice thick bacon too, not that cheap skinny stuff. Took a little longer than expected, but again - great food and pretty dang cheap too
(4)Chris S.
(3)Natalie G.
(4)Kara Z.
This place is very popular and very quirky. But I LOVED my pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. They make their own pancake batter and the pancakes are delicious! We weren't a fan of the pie, though- the crust was pretty gummy. The omelettes got good reviews too!
(4)Debbie B.
(5)Charlize C.
(5)Jill C.
Hungry Bear is a really cute, friendly spot for breakfast food. Our waitress, Sami, was super friendly, and the pancakes here are the lightest and fluffiest I've ever had. Can't wait to go back and get more!
(5)Angie K.

(4)Melissa R.
Fantastic roadside breakfast place. Great selection, some unusual items such as crepes, all delicious and reasonable. Very homey atmosphere
(5)Joe L.
(4)David G.
(3)Dani D.
(1)Brad H.
(3)Tim S.
(4)Karin H.

The best place for breakfast large serving size great service and friendly people we go every other week
(5)Annette R.
Darling place that's been around forever because it's efficient (lots of "Flo" type servers lol), reasonably priced and very good food. Always the breakfast burritos for me.
(5)Lu V.
Best breakfast around! I have been coming to this restaurant for over five years and there just is no comparison with any other restaurant here in town. The staff is really friendly, the music is perfect as a great mix of classic rock and top hits tunes. The food is always perfect and I could come here everyday.
(5)Erik N.
(5)Elody and Miles M.
Cozy atmosphere, very friendly staff. Food was poor, most overcooked burgers we've ever had. Kids macaroni and cheese was straight out of a Kraft box.
(2)Russell M.
(5)Bryan M.
Great place for breakfast. My family loves this place, reasonable prices and great food. We only come for breakfast, we tried the lunch once and didn't care for it.
(4)Lawrence W.
(4)Eric S.
(5)Cyndy S.

(5)Ben W.
Food is unbelievably good. The only thing that is better than the food is the service. Nicest ladies. Eat here. You won't be disappointed.
(5)Jason L.
Good spot for breakfast, with all sorts of menu options. Great for families. Very friendly staff, an overall good experience.

(5)Jay H.
(5)Kim W.

(3)Brandon D.
Great breakfast and fun local atmosphere. The wait staff is quirky and fun.
(5)Christina M.
(5)Don R.
(2)Tara S.
(5)Bree H.
The food was delicious! All of their food is from scratch with no preservitives and boy can you taste it! I haven't had buttermilk pancakes like the ones they serve here since I was a small child. The service can be a little slow when they are super packed but it's worth the wait and everyone there is friendly.
(5)Gautham S.
Super fun.
(5)Mindee H.
We stayed in Woodland Park over Spring Break. We had breakfast at the Hungry Bear Restaurant and loved it! It is a quaint little place filled with locals. The breakfast was great and the service was friendly. We enjoyed it so much we went back again before we left town.
(5)Nicole S.
(2)Sara G.
Always busy, limited parking, cozy space. Pretty traditional breakfast joint. Nothing too rememberable. Friendly staff.
(3)Daniel S.
(2)Sarah G.
(2)Josh G.
(2)Sarah C.
Bottom line up front--mass quantities at decent prices. I don't think I'll be back, it's really not my taste. But the food was ok and the service was definitely efficient and friendly. The kids liked it and that was good enough for me at 0730 before a 6 mile hike.
(3)Richard H.
Just ate breakfast there this morning with our group. Food was excellent. Cranberry french toast is amazing. Service was a bit slow, but everything was correct and they were packed for the Holiday. We've been there several times and the food is always good. We will definitely go again!
(5)April S.
(5)Julie L.
(2)T M.
(4)Suzy W.
(4)JAK K.
(4)S D.
(1)Norm M.
Once again I ate an awesome meal with huge portions. I don't think my stomach can handle eating here more than once a month. :-)
(4)Jake J.
So Sad.
(5)Pat R.
(4)C M.
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. And you get a lot of food for the money. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow. They also have a large wheel you spin after your meal to win soup, pie, coffee, etc on your next visit.
(5)Matt A.
(5)Barbara S.
(2)Scott L.
Great place to get breakfast. Blueberry crepes are excellent. Mostly locals and can get crowded. Friendly employees and good service. The best place by far to get breakfast in the area.
(5)Kris S.
My husband and I have gone in few times service is good but the food is getting worse. Our food consisted of burnt toast and burnt hash browns and a slice of cheese on top of the omelet. Never will go there again.
(2)Eric G.
The location is great. The food is fantastic! The atmosphere and seating is like going back in time to the seventies.
(5)Sue C.
(4)Brandi F.
(2)Roger D.
(4)Jim N.
(4)Jessica C.
(1)Sheryl H.
(4)Sandy H.
Excellent good and service! Great local restaurant, we stopped for breakfast and had the special--lots of food!
(5)Evey M.
(1)Jolyn B.
(4)D'Arci R.
(3)Ken V.
Love it.
(4)Ericka L.
We were seated quickly had great service and the food was delicious! Huge portions that we couldn't finish. The pancakes were amazing!
(4)Fred H.
(5)Ryan F.
We went for a late lunch. The service was great. The food was even better. I had a BLT. There were 2 layers of each. Double bacon, double lettuce and double tomato. It was awesome. Everyone elses food was great. My kids even want to revisit. Enjoy!!
